module-text tb_v85t741  repeat \" data-lazy=\"1\">\n            <div  class=\"tb_text_wrap\">\n    <p>by Zena Mbanxa<\/p>\n<p>I knew one night that societal expectations of how to act or behave had corrupted my subconscious when I caught myself being embarrassed by how I was dancing whilst alone in my room.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This realisation sparked the thought, \u201cWhy am I embarrassed to be dancing carelessly, when there is no one here to see me do it?\u201d These thoughts on how I had internalised a sense of omniscient dystopian surveillance led to my creation of <i>The Witness<\/i>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><i>Someone is watching you!\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>This is the central theme behind my installation. <i>The Witness<\/i> comments on the idea of an ever-present watcher in one\u2019s life, whether that be an outside force in the form of surveillance cameras, being captured in the background of a stranger\u2019s photo, or an internal projection of societal judgement that manifests itself in more unique subconscious ways, such as self-policing or self-surveillance.<\/p>    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- \/module text -->\t        <\/div>\n\t    \t<\/div>\n\t\t    <\/div>\n\t corrupted my subconscious when I caught myself being embarrassed by how I was dancing whilst alone in my room.\u00a0<\/p> <p>This realisation sparked the thought, \u201cWhy am I embarrassed to be dancing carelessly, when there is no one here to see me do it?\u201d These thoughts on how I had internalised a sense of omniscient dystopian surveillance led to my creation of <i>The Witness<\/i>.\u00a0<\/p> <p><i>Someone is watching you!\u00a0<\/i><\/p> <p>This is the central theme behind my installation. <i>The Witness<\/i> comments on the idea of an ever-present watcher in one\u2019s life, whether that be an outside force in the form of surveillance cameras, being captured in the background of a stranger\u2019s photo, or an internal projection of societal judgement that
