I Was, I Am
by Atlegang Mkhize
Intersections of the body emerge from my personal confrontation with body dysmorphia and the fractured ways I perceive my sense of self. Through painting and mixed media, I attempt to make visible the tension between how I see myself and how I am seen. Drawing from psychological understandings of the self, my work reflects on the instability of identity. Each piece becomes an act of reclamation, an effort to reimagine my body not as a site of distortion but as a site of becoming.
